SCD - See everything under all circumstances
/Semiconductor Devices Ltd. (SCD*) is a world leading manufacturer and supplier of infrared detectors and laser diodes, born in Israel.
With over forty years of expertise in research, development, and manufacturing, it is a key partner for clients in the defense, homeland security (HLS), and commercial sectors worldwide.
SCD’s extensive range of detectors, both Cooled and Uncooled, harnesses cutting-edge technologies and capabilities to drive innovation. These detectors utilize a diverse array of sending materials, including InSb, XBn, InGaAs, T2SL and VOx from all across the infrared spectrum: NIR, SWIR, MWIR, and LWIR.
Its detectors have been developed to meet civil needs (medical, gas detection, civil aviation, spectral analysis, etc.), as well as those of the space sector (satellites and nanosatellites) and the defense and security sector:
Land: handheld thermal cameras, missile warning systems, armored vehicles and main battle tanks (MBTs), long-range surveillance, thermal weapon sights, drones, driver assistance systems, reconnaissance, remote weapon sights, anti-drone systems.
Naval: missile warning systems, long-range surveillance, reconnaissance, remote weapon sights, infrared search and track (IRST) systems.
Airborne: missile warning systems, continuous surveillance, airborne payloads, infrared search and track (IRST) systems, reconnaissance, missile seekers.
Homeland Security (HLS): long-range surveillance, perimeter security, border and coastal security, critical infrastructure protection, fire detection, law enforcement, public safety, and transportation.
For combat environments where operators must rapidly detect and respond to threats despite reduced visibility, SCD’s enhanced SWIFT EI SWIR module incorporates features such as laser spot detection, hostile fire indication, and platform stabilization support. Its event-based imaging architecture is designed to reduce processing load while enabling rapid threat detection in environments characterized by smoke, dust, and low light.
For missile seekers and guided munitions operating at high speeds and under highly dynamic flight conditions, SCD offers Joule-Thomson (JT) cooled MWIR detectors, notably the Pelican and Blackbird 640 series. These detectors facilitate rapid target acquisition and long-range imaging while simplifying integration into both existing and next-generation seeker platforms.
To meet the needs of long-range targeting and identification, SCD’s Sparrow and Sparrow HD MWIR detectors provide high-resolution imaging suitable for a variety of applications: loitering munitions, remote weapon stations, airborne payloads, and perimeter defense systems. With thousands of Sparrow units deployed globally each year, this detector family is designed to support programs requiring scalable deployment while adhering to strict SWaP-C (Size, Weight, Power, and Cost) constraints.
The "Robin" family of uncooled 12 µm long-wave infrared (LWIR) detectors enables the design of next-generation loitering munitions and missile seekers that operate without mechanical stabilization; this technology combines a low thermal time constant (Tau) with high thermal sensitivity to ensure rapid scene adaptation and stable imaging during high-speed maneuvers, thereby reducing motion blur for highly agile platforms lacking a stabilized nacelle.
